WET, STORMY EVENING FOR SOME… Depending on where you are in our local area, it’s either been partially wet or a downright monsoon! Rain and storms have been pretty consistent throughout the day across west Alabama. It’s been a hit or miss, off and on-type rain for south central Alabama and northwest Florida. This brief radar tour (no audio!) shows what is happening right now across our region.

WHAT TO EXPECT… Rain and storm coverage will likely increase as the evening continues. Several models have hinted that a line of strong thunderstorms could move across southwest Alabama and northwest Florida from west to east between 7PM and midnight. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, an isolated strong or severe storm cannot be ruled out. The main concern in the stronger storms will be potentially damaging wind gusts and lightning. This applies to you no matter where you are in the region: Chatom, Thomasville, Jackson, Monroeville, Evergreen, Brewton, Atmore, Flomaton, Century, Pensacola, Crestview, Mobile, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Dauphin Island, Navarre, Destin.

HANGOUT DRY FOR NOW… We note The Hangout music fest in Gulf Shores has been mostly dry so far today. There have been some sprinkles from brief, tiny showers. Note that a line of storms will likely move through the area later tonight, and for those of you that might be outside on the beach, you’ll need to be ready to get inside and sheltered as storms could be strong when they move through. Lightning will be the main concern along with gusty winds.

MORE STORMS SUNDAY EVENING… A line of storms likely moves across the region in the next few hours with light to moderate rain throughout the overnight hours. A lull of activity is likely Sunday morning before more storms fire up in the P.M. hours of Sunday. You’ll again need the rain gear handy.

APP/COVERAGE… While I am not expecting a long duration severe weather event, a few strong storms are possible. You’ll need a way to receive urgent weather warnings over the next few hours even though the severe weather risk overall is low. The tornado risk remains quite low, with the main concern being potentially strong winds that could knock down trees. I’ll be posting near constant updates in the RedZone Weather app (rzweather.com/app for the free download!) over the next few hours. Join me there for more…
